Every Single Step Counts

Every Single Step Counts

Moms love to hug, kiss or cuddle little ones. Others love smelling them. Others are simply content just by looking at these little angels. Admit it; babies are definitely cute and adorable!!!

(My son Kurt when he was 2 days old.)

However, they won’t be babies forever. They definitely grow physically (physical attributes of the baby), mentally (learning of the baby) and emotionally (babies could feel and express themselves more clearly when they grow up).

Two of the most important development they will encounter are crawling and walking. Whether we like it or not, babies will have to do these (it’s alright mommies, they will be your babies forever).

Crawling and walking are part of the young ones’ milestones.

Crawling is the first step for the baby to be independent. This happens at an estimate of 7-10 months. He will learn how to roll over first, and then face down, learns to bends his knees and put strength in balancing his hands. (Muscles will be used in this kind of activity.) There will be a lot of attempts before he could perfect this. When there is perfection of balancing the knees and hands, he will then starts moving forward with a few steps and doing it backwards with also a few steps. Once he’s hooked with moving to and from, he will begin to the next step of his milestone. And that would be walking.

(My son Kurt crawling at almost 6 months.)

Walking is another development of a baby. When he could already roll over, sit on his own and could balance the sitting position, he will try to reach things which could hold him while he’s about to stand. He will try to do this all the time until he could stand on his own. Do not be worried if he falls or loses balance as this is a part of training. Always remember that we cannot see the child’s success if he won’t fall and fail. He will just never get tired of standing until the moment when he could already stand, balance and give one step forward (using either right or left)... then moving another foot forward and he laughs with his own achievement.

(My son sitting on his own at around 6 months - 7 months.)

(My son on his walker at around 8 months with daddy. However, Kurt began to walk on his own at 9 months, that's January 2012 when my husband left for Afghanistan.)

Some moms get worried because they’re babies are either too advanced or too delayed.  Don’t be scared because each child varies from the other. One may crawl first and the other will crawl after a month. Moms should remind themselves not to compare their children with others because your child is yours and your neighbour’s child is hers, you don’t have the same genes. And if even you have the same genes, each child is unique in his or her own way.

Just try to keep sharp objects away from babies like pens. Keep scattered papers so they won’t get tempted to drop by and eat it. Put some baby friendly mats or cover the edges of your tables so they won’t get hurt. Give them some helper like the baby walker. And, don’t pressure your own child.

I hope you mommies learned something from this and helped you somehow. And remember every single step counts!
