Kiddie Wall Decor
Valentine Special
Valentine’s Day is so near, just
days away. My little girls, my son and I decided to do kiddie wall art design
perfect for Hearts’ Day.
Things to prepare:
- Cardboard
- Construction paper
- Art paper / Coloured Paper
- Glue
- Glue stick with glue gun (candle if glue gun is not available; just be resourceful)
- Egg shells
- Water color / paints (to color anything you would like to color)
- Scrapbook materials
- Cutter / Scissors
- Empty match boxes / vitamin boxes or any small boxes (to recycle materials)
- Recycled gift wrappers (these are gift wrappers I kept from the gifts given to me; I just thought it would be of use someday)
- Old stuffed toys
- Used paper clips
- Yourself and imagination (be creative)
Note: Please take note that I will be posting other
decor which are not for valentines’ however it could be of use and would be
nice to look at if already posted on the wall.
1.
Gather all your materials. Cut pieces of
cardboard in any shapes or sizes that you would like. (Remember that the moment you
start cutting the sizes and shapes is already a good visual representation for
children about the lessons SHAPES and SIZES.)
aIf you have kids at home, you may want to do it with them and guide them. It would be fun if there will be a lot of kids in the room.
Cut the cardboard in any shape or size you like.
Cover it with colored paper.
2. Cut
construction paper or art paper or any coloured paper you would like to use to
cover the cardboard. Choose any color that you like. For Hearts’ Day, you may choose red
or pink. But for young learners,
you may use primary colors (red, yellow
and blue) or secondary colors
(purple, orange and green).
Jelai is covering the cardboard.
3. Instead
of coloured paper or art paper, you may choose used gift wrappers to cover the cardboard.
(Recycling
materials is also a good way to teach children how to save raw materials like
wood from trees).
Using old gift wrapper to cover the cardboard. Plus using the empty match box covered with pink paper and finally adding a star (scrapbook material).
4. Once
the board is already covered, get some scrapbooking materials like heart-shaped
stickers and post it on the board and put all the designs you would like to
place on it. Make sure to be creative.
Dried leaves for a wedding souvenir and I just took it out of the souvenir basket and place it here.
5. If
you have empty match boxes or vitamin boxes or any small and big boxes, use it.
Cover them with old gift wrappers or coloured papers. Once you’re done, glue it
on top of the board. (It is best to put a
small and a big box in one board so you may introduce early learning to your
child of 1 – 3years about BIG and SMALL objects).
6. If
you have used stuffed toys, go glue it on the cardboard. You may use glue or glue stick. Now, if you don't have glue gun, use candle and burn the tip of the glue stick. Stuffed toys are good example of lesson SOFT and HARD. You may add hard objects which are safe to use beside the stuffed toys for comparison. (This will help them enhance the sense of touch). If you have used paper
clips, you may deform it and form a heart shape.
7. If
you have eggshells, paint it with red or pink or any color you like. Then let
it dry for a few minutes. After that, crash it. Once done, put glue on the
cardboard and sprinkle your coloured eggshells or form a heart shape.
That's my son and I. We're doing a messy job with the eggshells.
The floor isn't part of the plan but what can I do, he's 1 year old. It will be more fun on the floor. Just make sure he won't eat it.
8. Once
you are done designing, mount it on your wall. All art works should be mounted
next to each other so it would be like a wall or puzzle for kids.
9. You
are done making with your Kiddie Wall Decor.
Mount their work. If you have noticed, the wall isn't filled up yet. We are saving this for next celebrations like birthdays, Christmas, New Year, Halloween.
I prefer using recycled materials. I have learned
how to be resourceful because of the kind of job I had. I had to teach children
in the most poor and rural areas of our city. They have nothing but I have to
do something to let them learn.
Thanks for visiting. I would definitely love to
